Rethinking for Circular Economy

Welcome to the first virtual INTOSAI WGEA Assembly meeting! The 20th Assembly will start by offering an insightful compilation of topics on Circular Economy!

Rethinking Circular Economy – what’s on the agenda?

We will start with a short warm up and virtual morning coffee session where we all have the chance to test the technical venue and go through housekeeping instructions. The Opening Ceremony starts at 6 UTC with opening speeches from the INTOSAI WGEA Chair, Auditor General Ms Tytti Yli-Viikari as well as from the Finnish Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Ms Krista Mikkonen.

After the opening ceremony, we will dive into the main theme of the 20th INTOSAI WGEA Assembly – Rethinking Circular Economy! We will have three top-notch professionals who will share their thoughts and ideas on circular economy. Mr Jocelyn Blériot from Ellen MacArthur Foundation will provide us an overview on what is meant by circular economy, after which Ms Elisa Tonda from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will address the global perspective of the theme.

After Mr Blériot and Ms Tonda, the former Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr Jyrki Katainen will join as from the studio. Mr Katainen is working as the President of The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and he will be interviewed by Auditor General Ms Yli-Viikari about circular economy within the European Union and The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra. After the keynote speeches, we have a chance to listen to a panel discussion where all three keynote speakers can share and challenge each other’s thoughts.

In the afternoon, from 12 UTC, the Assembly offers a more practical session on circular economy. Ms Saara Kankaanrinta will give an inspirational speech on recycling nutrients and regenerative agriculture, after which we will be introduced case studies from several Supreme Audit Institutions around the world. Before closing the day, we will hold a commentary discussion on measuring circular economy, which will be extremely interesting from an auditor’s point of view!
